Wouxun KG-UV920R: Problems

Posted on Kight Radio last night:
"7/19
The Wouxun Dual band Mobile is out but its got problems. The Cross Band repeat is not setup correctly. It will repeat but will not transmit on the offset needed to access repeaters. The way they have it setup is worthless to the ham. This radio should not have been released. This shows that Wouxun did not have this radio checked ahead of time by USA Hams. The new radio is worthless the way it operates. Looks like Anytone or TYT will be the mobile to buy. Wouxun also tried to fix the price on the Dual band Mobile to be $325 - $350 which is way too high for the Chinese Radio."
It is one thing to be priced high. It is another thing to be priced high AND not work well. So Anytone, TYT, or the BAOJIE BJ-UV55 are looking like the better options. Nate sent me stuff on the BJ-UV55. I need to dig on that one and the Anytone. Anyone got some more hours in the day they can spare?

  3. Yeah, sorta like waiting for that new bike for Christmas only to get new socks (OK the old ones WERE holey, still...)

  4. Definitely a big letdown. I guess that Wouxun was relying on the hype to drive sales rather than features or quality since we've been waiting for this radio so long. I guess I'll just have to take a look at some of the other Chinese mobiles that will be coming out soon. Wouxun really shot themselves in the foot on this one...

  6. Hello friends

I've checked this dual band mobile radio with cross band repeater function through two repeater frequency, with shift and tone and the trasponder function it's perfectly working without any problem !
Probabily that the last release received in Italy in August was just revised about this malfunction !

  8. I have BaoJie BJ-UV55 and it is an inexpensive mobile, built heavy duty, programming system / menu is very very similar to Baofeng UV-5R so if you have one of those, this will be very intuitive. Very good dual band radio for approx $200 .... which is approx $100 less expensive than nearest competition.

  9. A few things, in testing one of these on the bench I found our test model does not have 2.5Khz steps. This seems to be related to the programming error with the software as it is telling me "Mode need be 2.5K type" and it fails on sending programming to the unit. Oddly, I can receive programming to the computer from the radio, just can;t alter it and send it back. In fact, after a read I can;t even send the read file back to the radio without alteration. We may have an older buggy unit. Looking in to this. (1-3-2013)

    1. Go into the settings menu and change your step setting to 2.5 and save it, then you should have no problems sending the file to the radio.

    2. The above is assuming you actually went to the Wouxun website and downloaded the special 2.5Khz step programming software they published. If not then you should do that first.
