Leixen VV-808: Sale

I got an e-mail saying the VV-808 (VHF version) is on sale for $118.24 including shipping to the US. (The UHF version is still at $144.04 with shipping.) That's not the sub-100 number I think starts to make it interesting again and I don't know if this is just a temporary sale to gauge response.

  1. A Yaesu FT-2900 is arguably better in quality, Universal Radio lists that one for about $150 (after rebate). That's not much of a difference.

Nobody in his right mind would go for a Leixen now. It was nice while it lasted.

  2. And Remember:
Please don't disassemble the radio yourself even if you are a seasoned ham, because you might broken the radio in accident. And you won't entitled for the after service since you disassenble the radio.

Kenwood can be had even less than Yaesu.

  3. Kight Radio lists it at $99.95 (both VHF UHF).

    (same price, several month now).

Does it actually have two receivers (can you receive two different transmissions constantly at the same time)?

  4. Excellent. Now knock another $70 off of it and I'll be interested.

  5. When these radios were $50 to $70 bucks new it was very tempting, but not at these higher prices. I'd rather pick up a used Alinco/Icom/Kenwood/Yaesu at a local hamfest than take a chance on a one band 10w Chinese radio.
