Unsubscribe

When I unsubscribe from an e-mail list and I get a message like this:

"You have successfully unsubscribed from our mailing list. We are sorry to see you go. We will process your request in the next 10 days."

I always go back to Gmail and flag the message as spam. Ten days! Bogus.

Frustrated

I've mentioned before that I have a gmail account that often people confuse as their own. Today I got a couple of verification messages for a service I am not using.

First:
We are pleased that you have chosen to secure your Canyousendmethepass account by providing an email address.
Then:
We are pleased that you have chosen to secure your Sendmethefkingpm account by providing an email address.
Somebody is getting frustrated.

SnoozeIt

Speaking of task managers... So many tasks revolve around e-mail, I like to use it as a virtual task manager. I've used Tasks and Appointments in Outlook, but they made it awkward to get back to the original message that generated the activity. I wanted to use the original message in order to maintain the history.

I've used Boomerang (for Outlook) and like it, except there was no quick option to have a message reappear in three days - critical for the Friday to Monday period.

TechHit has released SnoozeIt which is a similar tool. I already use TwInbox - which is their plugin to get tweets in my Outlook. I might have to check it out.

An update... before I got this posted, I saw KK Cool Tools recommending Boomerang for Gmail. What really caught my attention was this:
"You also — and this is a sweet add-on — get to choose whether you want the message to Boomerang as a function of whether your email receives a reply, is not clicked, is not opened, or regardless. So if you you choose to only Boomerang in 1 week if there is no reply because you want to make sure your email is attended to, and then the recipient replies in 2 days, your email will not come back to you in 1 week."
Cool indeed.

Loretta, Geek Squad has checked your device in for repair

I mentioned that I got in early with a gmail account and people mistakenly use my address as their own.

I just got an e-mail from the Geek Squad.
"Hello Loretta,
Your device has been checked in at the Geek Squad® Precinct at your local Best Buy® store. We look forward to repairing it and getting it back to you soon."

I'm going to take a wild guess here... if Loretta doesn't know her e-mail address, fixing the device is going to be an uphill battle.

What's in a name?

I was able to get my gmail address very early on - it is just my lastname@gmail.com. People use my address to sign up for all sorts of things - car rentals, apartment repairs, pizza orders, dating sites, etc.

Beat E-mail

One man's strategy to manage e-mail... my thoughts:

  • Touch messages as few times as possible - obviously once is best.
  • In order of preference
    • Delete
    • Archive
    • Delegate
    • Act
    • Delay (mark for follow-up)
