Tytera (TYT) MD-380: DMR HT

Check out the full review here, but the highlights follow:
The Good
Audio Volume and Quality: The audio from this radio is very full, with a good response to low frequencies, making it pleasing to listen to and it will get heard, even in the noisiest environments;
Rugged Construction: This radio is very well built, so it should keep going long after typical ham radio units call it quits;
Multicolor LCD Display: Having a multicolor LCD display on the radio allows for easy use and programming while on the move;
Front Panel Programming: This radio is capable of being programmed via the keypad, allowing users to make changes without the need for the PC;
Antenna Connector: The antenna connector for this radio uses a SMA connection, allowing it to easily be connected to an external antenna;
Price: At $170 USD, this radio is a very attractive option for anyone looking to get started with DMR.
The Bad
Software Polish: There are a number of oddities within the firmware of the radio that impacts it’s overall user experience;
Bluetooth Capability: This radio is not Bluetooth capable, so the use of wireless audio accessories is not possible;
Desktop Charger: The desktop charger takes hours to charge the radio, plus the green “finished” LED indicator does not turn off, even when the radio is removed from the charge

Grapevine DMR Radios

Ripped from a Grapevine e-mail that was forwarded to me:

"Wow, brand new from BFDX, this is a very nice radio. Right out of the package, you can tell this is a well-made piece of equipment. Heavy-duty, durable and stylish. The large TFT color screen looks great and is easy to read. A voice prompt, which you can turn off or on, talks to you and tells you which channel you are on. All channels and zones are customizable with names and many characters that you can set to read whatever you like.

This unit comes with built-in GPS, so your transmit location is viewable by others with a GPS receiver in their radios. This feature can be turned off or on. The "On" mode of the GPS has 2 settings, one for higher performance, and one for battery saver."

"We're carrying the Connect Systems radios for the purposes of promoting DMR. At $199, you'll pay exactly the same price from us that you'd pay from Connect Systems. Drop by the store and take yours home today! We'll even program it for you with the DFW-area codeplug at no additional charge. Of course you can order from the website also."

"TYT's MD-280 DMR HT holds just 16 channels with no display, but offers a lower cost solution for DMR. Perfect for businesses or for a young ham who just needs a few talkgroups.

Comes with programming cable and free software."

TYT TH-9800: Version 2

Grapevine Amateur Radio sent out an e-mail about the updated TYT TH-9800 Quad band mobile. They have it for $279.99:
"We received a brand new shipment 2 days ago and have already sold several of these updated radios. This is the latest version of the TH-9800 Quad Bander, which contains a new PCB board and has the most up-to-date firmware."
I wish there was a little more detail in the message.

TYT TH-UV818

From Nate:

"I was wondering when they'll imitate the body design of the Yaesu/Standard/Horizon VX-7R/HX470/VXA-710."

Which reminds of where this all started for me - the Baofeng UV-3R copying the Yaesu VX-3R. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Vero Telecom VR-6600P

Hans has an update on some new Vero Telecom (VGC) products including the VR-6600P that looks a lot like a Yaesu FTM-350.
Whatever happened to their UV-X5 tri-bander? Maybe it ended up as this?

AnyTone Intellectual Property and TYT

Ed (Import Communications) passed along the following:
To Whom this may Concern:
Please be aware that our Company, Qixiang Electron Science & Technology Co., Ltd., is the manufacturer and designer of the industry leading AT-588 mobile transceiver. We are sending you this notice as where we wish to inform you that our intellectual property has been stolen by a competitive manufacturer from Quanzhou City, China, TYT Electronics Co., Ltd..
They sold worldwide a copy of our radio, which they called the TH9000.
Based on the evidence presented to the courts,  the Intermediate People's Court of Quanzhou City announced after trial on June 17,2013, the following verdict:
1) It was found where TYT illegally obtained the technical files of the Model AT-588 (single band mobile radio) from Qixiang and used this information to produce a copy and sold their copied model TH-9000 to the industry.
2)TYT was ordered to stop the production and sales of the TH9000
3) TYT was fined 4 million RMB ($650,000 USD) for its tort and illegal activity as damages to Qixiang.
The decision of the courts was fair and just, and brings another level of integrity to the radio manufacturing sector in China.
It  also reminds all professional radio manufacturers in China to the intellectual property of others and this decision reminds of them what they cannot do.
We remind all TYT resellers and users of the TYT Model  TH9000 about this court decision and advise all TYT customers or others to cease from advertising, selling, or supporting  the TH-9000 model transceiver. Qixiang Electron Science & Technology Co., Ltd., will protect its intellectual property and will prosecute to the fullest worldwide anyone found to sell the products in question.
Meanwhile, we hope our customers will support our original designed products, this will be lead us to stable and continued long-term business.

Wow.  I wonder if this will have any impact to all the other "clones" we see. I suspect many of the clones are sold by the original manufacturer and re-branded, but there are probably others out there that are not. And will they start protecting the intellectual property of non-Chinese companies? That has long been a concern of taking tech to China to be built.
