University of Tennessee, Los Angeles

The USC Trojans continue to build their program using former University of Tennessee talent. Rumor has it that David Cutcliffe may be hired as OC, Jay Graham as running backs coach, and Phil Fulmer will take responsibility for the offensive line. Negotiations are underway to replace Monte with John Chavis according to my made-up sources.

ClayTravisBGID Wow, did Lane Kiffin really hire Tee Martin at USC? Manning for OC next? Seriously, great hire.Wed, Feb 15 21:51:01 from Tweetbot for iOS

Forget Silicon Valley

Chattanooga is the new hot bed for geeks. Y'all come on over to Tennessee and get your 1 gigabit internet connection.

Hope they expand that network on up to my house in Knoxville.

Best 3-Point Shooter

I agree. Chris Lofton is the best 3-point shooter of all time. My favorite UT basketball teams all include Chris Lofton. Those teams worked hard, were extremely entertaining with their fast pace and pressure defense, and had a lot of success. It would be hard not to like them.

Here is Lofton's "you have got to be kidding me" shot from way out over Kevin Durant.

Harbrace

Also from my Tennessee Alumnus reading tonight... how did I not know that Hodges was responsible for Harbrace? No wonder he has a huge library named after him. I still use my Harbrace - not that you could tell from my raw, lazy, and unpolished writing for the blog. Proof reading is for the professionals.

Bye-bye Dooley?

With Wilcox and Sirmon gone, is Dooley next? Clay Travis thinks so and lists his Top 10 candidates. He is wrong about #3 in his list:

3. Peyton Manning
I would publicly offer the head coaching job to Peyton Manning in the event he doesn't want to take the health risk of returning to the NFL.
In fact, I'd even put Manning at the top of this list if it was my call.
Give him the offense and persuade John Chavis to come back and take over the defense under another Tennessee grad head coach.
Are you telling me that Manning wouldn't have the top quarterbacks in the country every year? Can you imagine what a home visit from Peyton Manning would be like?
This is every Tennessee fan's secret dream, that one day Peyton Manning will return to Knoxville and take back over the Vol football program. His injury may have just accelerated the timetable.
He is wrong about this being a secret dream. We say it loud and proud.

According to this poster, the Ten-Tec 539 is scheduled to be released at the Dayton Hamfest (May 18, 2012).

Ten-Tec Go-Bag

Ten-Tec is jumping on the Go-Bag bandwagon with a 40/30 Meter QRP Go Pack. It includes:
"R2327 Custom built, high performance portable multiband wire antenna which includes light weight coax,BNC connector, center balun, tie downs, plus Dacron rope.

Optimists

I think Jimmy thinks we are in for a rough ride...

How Far We Have Fallen

This year we had the Orange Dog and a lose to Kentucky. No swagger in that. We had some swagger once upon a time.

Hillbilly Goblets

Hillbilly goblets--pint Mason jars on stems. Goblets come with lids so you never have to recork the "wine." And it looks like it has chalkboard paint on the top of the lids, so you can write your name or your sister/cousin's name.

FG-01 Antenna Analyzer

I like to see TEN-TEC getting into different stuff. A little diversity may be important to their long term existence in the ham radio business.
"TEN-TEC is proud to announce that we are the exclusive distributor in the US for YouKits brand products.
The first product we are introducing from YouKits is the FG-01 a 1 to 60 MHZ Antenna Analyzer. This is not a kit but a fully assembled unit ready for use. The FG-01 utilizes the latest in SMT technology to provide a compact unit with lots of value."

And when did TEN-TEC do a makeover on their website? It looks good. I've mentioned that I like sellers that have an RSS feed, so I am glad to see that TEN-TEC has one.

Tauren Poole

wesrucker247 It's been a pleasure covering Vols Sr RB Tauren Poole. One of the classiest guys I've covered. Kid will be successful in life, for sure.Tue, Nov 15 14:30:23 from TweetDeck

I think his legacy will be tied up in the next year. If the Vols improve, then these are the guys that laid the foundation and got us through the tough times. If the Vols continue .500 (or worse!) football, then they will fade as just one more mediocre class.

Game Ball for Brodus

How to play for UT?
  1. Fall asleep on the couch.
  2. Wake up about an hour before the game.
  3. Answer the phone.
  4. Get a police escort to the stadium.
  5. Suit up.
  6. Kick three extra points and a field goal.
An amazing story. The Dooley quotes are, as usual, priceless.

Dale Ellis #14

I grew up watching UT sports. One of my favorite players of all time was Dale Ellis. He wore #14 and that became my "favorite number" as a youngster. I worn #14 every chance I got when playing sports. Dale was at the UT Men's Basketball practice tonight and Wes Rucker sent out these two gems:

wesrucker247 While watching Dale Ellis shoot, Cuonzo asked who was best shooter in the gym: "Am I technically in the gym right now?"Thu, Oct 20 20:33:16 from TweetDeck
