Quansheng TG-UV2: CHIRP Support

Looks like CHIRP support for the TG-UV2 may not happen in the immediate future:
"Dan replied to my inquiry with the following: " It depends on the radio, of course, but if it is going to happen, it would take less than a week of development time. "

He didn't venture when that week might occur. And that tiny word "if" looms large.

Ian"
I didn't see a way to vote/show support for a particular radio on Dan's site. He's doing this for free, so whatever he decides to do next is clearly up to him. As a quick data point, the relative Yahoo Group memberships are:

TG-UV2 - 431
UV-5R - 1,126
UV-3R - 3,118

[Updated June 29, 2012 - I meant Quansheng not TYT.]

  1. Getting a developer access to the radio has a lot to do with getting support in CHiRP. Dan sent out this announcement about the TYT TH-UV3R support.

"Once again, thanks go to Ed at Import Communications (formerly
Wouxun.us) for donating a radio for development. If you're a customer
(or potential customer), please send your thanks and business to Ed. If
there is another one of his radios you want supported in CHIRP, be sure
to make that known as well.

    1. It is nice of Ed or others to do this. As the message implies, this isn't the first radio that Ed have given/loaned to Dan.

It is also in their best interest to get the radios they sell supported in case the software from the manufacturer is sub-par. (Or people just want to be able to easily import their favorites into all their radios.)

Ed's decisions of which radios to send to Dan may be a good reflection of which are the most popular, too.

Having said all that, Ed and Dan are providing a nice service to us - no matter their motivations.
