        1. Nice concept, could be especially useful for rv-ing families with a couple of kids. . . BUT not on 400-420mHz...would someone please send a US RF spectrum chart to the Chinese developers.
This is at least the second offering with no legally usable frequencies in the US

          1. It's not usable even on FRS frequencies, and never will be due to the detachable antenna, and the > 500mw power output. It's also excluded because it can be programmed out of band.
That said it can be programmed to work on FRS/GMRS frequencies. Just get a GMRS license for your family, and you're all good.

          2. How are you programming these? And is it really only usable on 400-420?

        2. Agreed WB4TTO! A 4 ounce "disposable" radio could be useful for all sorts of applications, including high-altitude ballooning (for those of us who don't want to spend hours figuring out how to make a Dorji module work), fox-hunting, etc.

But only if it works on legal freqs!

        4. Agreed, too! 430...440 MHz and I would immediately buy it. But 400...420 MHz is pure nonsense in Europe.

        5. Hello,
          My truth meaning as HAM....
          worthless spendet money .
          No use for noting.

Short distance use ??? as CB illegal also in EU.

Mobile radio ??? 20 ch fix ? repeater shift ???
only UHF no dual band use for HAM.

For what spending about 90 €.
Every UV5r or Tyt mobile radio does better job.

          sorry to all developers.

          1. No good for Ham Use ??/ I use mine here in the UK on 70cm Simplex and Repeaters. Also have the 8 channels of 446mhz license free EU channels. Also programs on 2 mtrs !!! BUT you will need to modify the radio so that you can attach a dualband antenna. Easy to program.

        6. Unless Baofeng is planning to release this in US "ONLY", requesting specific frequency range from this manufacturer is kinda futile, since each country has its own frequency regulation, like in asia some countries GMRS/FRS are technically illegal, like from my place we used SRRS which is 325mhz.

        7. Poked around a bit, looks like there is another version (goes by same numbers, etc) that is 400-470MHz...

My question, since it dosen't seem clear to me at least,is how does the "base" work? Independent of the hand-helds or only when one is plugged into it?

          1. I think it may all be the same radio. I saw the exact same one that came with a programming cable and CD. I have 2 of the Baofeng GT-3TP and they had to be programmed to open op the frequencies, it was really easy and only took a few minutes, and I was good to go. I really want to get one of these radios but I don't want to spend a $100 on a brick if I'm wrong lol.

          2. you set the Freq range in the program software. UHF 400-470 and VHF 130-174 radios will program to VHF and seem to work, but not 100% convinced it truly on VHF

          3. Just received one of these units today. Programmed with no problem. Actually keyed up and talked on a UFC ham repeater 60 miles away. Receive was good but because of the low rf out the transmitter report was, I was noisy. Programmed in two vhf freq, according to my freq counter was not on vhf but on Uhf. Confirmed this with my spectrum analyzer. Conclusion my he does not work on vhf, vhf only.

        9. can it be configured for anything like 400-470MHz like 99% of chinese radios? Does it use regular "kenwood" cable for programming?
would be great on the right QRG

          2. If it is contructed for 400 to 420 all the filters in the input and output are not designed to work an higher frequency.
Still the LP Filter on the transmitter will not work in spec for FCC or CE. Harmonics will be out of Spec.

        12. As of today july 10, 2016, there is no software available for the bf-t1. Also a separate programming cable is needed to program the unit. The cable supplied is for charging only. The cable needed has an rs232 to ttl converter in the cable. Basically the radio is pretty much a brick until software is released and use of the proper programming cable.

        15. Good news! With the programming cable you can program this little rig with 20 channels 400-520MHz and 130-174MHz. Now be aware that the antenna is ... sub-optimal for the 130-174MHz so a suitable replacement will need to be MacGyvered. It'll be great to have a little, >$20, 4oz, disposable, dual band rig. It goes by another name BF-9100A, and the software to program it can be found here: or direct linked here: the cable does use a fake PL-2303 serial chip, so you'll also need the drivers off the same page, or direct linked here:

        21. Hallo,
got this crazy radio as a present from a shop on Christmas.
          Never would buy it.
Ok , now this works also on 430 to 470 Mhz.
You could do program on 145 ,but forget ,there is no lpf filter for.
          Also great missmatch.

About better antenna, I did some tests .
Best solution is building in a SMA Plug female.
then use one of the SRH 805s Diamond.
For this , cut the top of the original antenna housing.
After this glow the plug in. with a wire to the board.

Also do the soldering of a 22k ohm resistor over the AF IC for better audio steps.

I also did resolder the preresistor of the mik from 960 ohms to 1.9 kohms. Much much better tx audio.

If all is done it works nearly as a good radio.

But if somebody looks for a smart radio ,take the UV3r ,this is still the best small radio of Baofeng. ( first edtion mark2 ).
          No big price different .

          greatings to all
