Thanks to a comment on the earlier post, I see that the yellow version is now available at the 409Shop.com.
Given the note about quality concerns, I will probably wait until one of the US resellers has it. I don't mind paying a few bucks more to get support and don't desperately need one this minute. I'm still not sure why the color would impact the functionality. Maybe it was just a bad batch.
I have one of the blue UV-3R's and it's works fine. I can't see that there would be any difference in quality since the only difference is the color of the plastic case. The quality of the inside components should be consistent no matter the case color. Perhaps the yellow "quality" comment that the US supplier made was really a "...we don't have them in stock yet, so please wait until we do..."
