Baofeng UV-5R: Output Power

The question was asked on the UV-3R Yahoo Group if the UV-5R was 5 watts. I don't know the answer to that question, but the UHF TYT TH-F8 is 4 watts and the VHF TYT TH-F8 is 5 watts.

  1. Hi all, are you shure that the Baofeng UV-5R isn't a Hoax? Someone with humor and a good Photoshop?

    1. Sure? No, but I have no reason to doubt Chris. He is trying to run a business and wouldn't knowingly send out bad information. He got the information from his contact in China and, in good faith, forwarded it to me.

Baofeng didn't make the UV-3R. They got it from Vero Telecom. So that makes me think they might get a "full size" HT from someone and re-brand it, too.

If I were them, I'd leverage the success of the UV-3R and try to sell some different radios - compete with Wouxun and even beat them to market with a mobile!

      Time will tell!

  2. Thanks for the comment Brick.
I hope that you and your friend are right.
The success of the UV-3R (Mark II) is without doubt.
That has something to do with the smallness of the little radio but especially with the price!
Radios from the big brands are mostly 4 or even 10 times the price of the Baofeng.
So a full size and operating radio is nice but I hope that the price will also be nice.
