Baofeng UV-5R: Alphatags

We saw it in the software...

And now that I have the radio, I've seen it on the display, too. I should add that I had to do the alphatags via the software and that my programming cable from my Wouxun KG-UVD1P worked.

  1. Hello! Software problem: If entering CTCSS field and then clicking next field, the program crashed. Error message: Runtime-error 13 Type Mismatch. Any idea?

  2. It crashes constantly, not just on that! save after every line!
It works better when you use Enter to advance fields, and on the last field (Alpha tags) use Tab.

    2. I'm glad you got it working - thanks for letting me know. That also explains why I would not have seen the problem. I'm sure I am already defaulted to English (US).

You never have to apologize for your English... most of us Americans only know one language.

    1. Make sure you have a good physical connection - the tolerances on the plastic around the jacks and plugs can be a problem. You may have to really push it in to make the connection.

Also, in Windows Device Manager, do you see the Prolific device installed under Ports (Com & LPT)? If so, what COM Port is it using? Does the COM Port in Device Manager match what you have configured in the software?

Hope some of that will help.

    1. Are the frequencies you are programming in via the software showing up on the radio? That is, are any updates being passed from the software to the radio?

Are you in Memory/Channel mode or VFO?

  10. Once you program your alpha-tags into the radio you need to select in the menu to show them. I think it is menu 21/22 FREQ/CH/NAME

  11. Can this radio be programmed in to operate in channel only mode? No access to VFO, settings, etc? '

Basically setting it into "stupid mode" so the user has no way to change anything.
