Help a Curmudgeon Out: Shortwave Recommendation

The Adaptive Curmudgeon is looking for suggestions for an inexpensive shortwave receiver. Got any ideas for him?

I feel like there is good info at the SWLing blog. They also have reviews and a database of shortwave radios.

    So is a Techsun PL-880 a good choice? That's my guess for the right combination of "plug and play", cheap, and good quality. (Cheap is the limiting factor I think.) It's $160 on Amazon. If anyone has a better price I'd be happy to hear it. I'm all about being cheap. (I do want the new firmware though. That seems important.)
