  2. I like that it's so small so it will hardly take up any room in your trash bin.

  3. I'd really like to see a manual for it. Also, wonder how similar it is to the Leixen VV-898, which has zero knobs?

    1. The manual that comes with this radio is truly awful, the worst sort of Engrish you've ever read.

  4. So I wonder what will be the best of the worst out of all these? This? The Leixen? Or the KT-8900?

  9. Not as good as a Baofeng UV-5r
    Yes I own both ..
Baofeng UV-5r is more sensitive , and filters noise better ..
BJ-218 is overpriced if paying more than $100USD

  10. Very very deaf receiver. What a shame.

  11. Further to my comment on 31st August- Correction *** I WAS WRONG *** Its NOT deaf *** We had the wrong antenna in. Its not the most sensitive but its fine. In fact I would say , against buying an unknown second hand Japanese transceiver its a good buy. Puts out 5 , 10 and 25 watts as claimed. Acceptable on breakthrough too. Good audio reports , All in all a super little thing for the money.

  16. I got the software BUT it says there is a communication error or time out error, I give up on this radio unless someone has some ideas... there is a company (RTS) that sells the software and cable for $50 USD but will it work?

  17. I am happy to share my software if someone will share what they did to get it to work, just email me at: scouterdonn@gmail.com and we can work together to figure it out. I have 8 of the BJ218 for my boy scout camps and need them working ASAP. I am posting this on 5/13/17.

  19. Just receive today a cable for programming a bj-218, download a program from Baoji, win 10 driver ok but not work, windows 8 same can't send or receive, hope chirp make this possible.
I'm not alone in the world with this problem....
Manualy it's just hard but not impossible.

    1. A lot of these cables use counterfeit chipsets. If Windows updates the drives it will not work. You have to use the driver from the seller/manufacturer. It has nothing to do with Chirp or the programming software itself from Baojie that you input the frequencies. - 25 Years in the IT field, I speak from experience.

  21. Anyone use this with a TNC for packet? The mic pinout someone provided above does not appear to have audio output. I guess the connector in the back is for speaker, so perhaps that could be used.

  22. I was wondering if anyone knows if the BJ-218 would be ideal for GMRS traffic. Thank you in advance. Still green.
