I think the Wouxun is a better radio over all. If I could only have one, I would pick the Wouxun. But, as my father-in-law says, these radios tend to multiple. And you can always sell the radio later if you don't like it. It will hold a lot of value.
Another question is, what would I do with a handheld like these? I got my technician license just for fun, because it was easy to do. But I don't really have anybody to talk to.
I suppose I could get 2 UV-3Rs and teach my 10 year old how to use one in an emergency. Keep one in the car and one at home.
Programming a repeater is not too hard. You just need to know the frequency and the offset (+ or -). If you get the programming cable, it is very easy to do on either radio.
Should I get a UV-3R or a KG-UV6D?
ReplyDeleteI'm a new HAM, technician license. I can afford the price difference, but to start out, which is better? Is the Wouxun overkill?
Concerned also that the UV-3R does not have 2.5 kHz step size.
Thanks

Also how does one connect to a repeater?
Other ideas?
Thanks again
Hams are a pretty social bunch, so you don't have to know anyone when you start. You can find out if there are repeaters near you by going here:
