Baofeng UV-5R: DTMF

Impossible to know for sure until someone gets their hands on one, but it really looks like the UV-5R will have a DTMF capability.

First, we have this form in the UV-5R software:

And from the manual, we have these two sections. The first from the list of menu options and the second the detail about that menu option.

  2. Ordered mine last week but received no confirmation besides what PayPal sends...did anyone here receive something from the 409shop when they placed their order? I did see where they changed the info on their site to a dual band antenna included.

    2. Thanks, Brick...I received mine early this morning. Tried to get a delivery date when I asked for the receipt but no luck. Thanks for the work that you have done here in bringing us the latest on this as I can find no other news beyond a presently dead conversation on the AR.15 forum. This will be my first inexpensive non-brand name radio and honestly I'm a little excited as to what you receive for the money and if it's a decent enough backup for the Elecraft KX3 that I have on order. Don't know what I'd do without boards like this to teach me about these radios (complete newb) so again I am very grateful for your efforts.

    3. Glad to help. I'm not much beyond a newb myself... I've just kinda fallen into this Baofeng deal. They aren't perfect, but they are a great value!

    4. Great value indeed. It's amazing to me that these are evidently contracted (if it's TYT then their site claims no more than 100 units required) then shipped here for $56 OTD. Am I too much of a newb concerning the features included in these things or are we actually receiving pretty close to what is being offered elsewhere at not only a fraction of the cost but with the latest technology included as well? (or even a year or so behind).

    5. i have a baofeng uv-5r great little radio full quieting hearing repeaters 36 mi away with factory ant. Got my copper j-pole out yesterday and hit it and talked with full quieting from my picnic table. only issue is the charger adapter puts out 8.4v when the charging cradle takes 10v so it wasn't charging i just found an adapter that puts 10v and now its charging

  3. Im not a newb and i can tell you from personally using boafeng and wouxuns and puxing that your getting a lot of bang for your buck with these Chinese HT's

  4. Thanks, Mike. You just saved me a lot of time researching all three brands as being suitable for backup or even everyday use and I appreciate that very much. I have picked up even (3) Cree XML driven lights from the Chinese at a similar pricepoint that sure weren't Surefires...but then again Surefire doesn't make these lights, they've never failed and I really don't care if they ever do from what I've got out of them to date.

  5. Out of the 3 i mentioned Wouxun are built really really well and can take somewhat of a beating. If your going to use these radios out on the trail or in a somewhat rough environment i would suggest the Wouxun kg-uvd1p.
