DeleteBeen watching the listing and it was changed back to 240...
DeleteFalse Alarm :-/
I don't know how anyone can program this kt8900r radio. I can not follow youtube what so ever. Ihave a disk and cord that I ordered from Amazon. It will not put the software on my screen.
DeleteAnd it still has the audio mute bug? LOL the way they get explain their way out of it:
ReplyDelete"Q4: When listening to an incoming signal in 145.000mhz, if i tune to a different frequency 160.000mhz, and then return back to 145.000mhz, audio does not come through
A4: Knob is for using is selecting menu only, not for in searching frequency. If you need to use knob in searching frequency signal, you need to press the [PTT] key to active the frequency/ channel, so that you can hear audio.
(However, we suggest buyer to use keypad [up] & [down] to change the frequency) )"
Feature - not a bug! :)
DeleteThe current webpage says 240 to 260 mhz. I wonder if it is for Thailand users.
ReplyDeleteI recently bought a TYT- 8900 quad band with 220 MHz instead of 440mhz. Price was listed at 230.00 with programming cable, but they will take an offered discount. On ebay and a USA seller.

Glad I put the question mark in the title.
DeleteI have recently had the new version delivered, and the only bug I have found is the unit will randomly turn itself to VFO mode when I am in Channel mode.. any help would be great. Nice unit good audio, oh one other niggle is the external speaker jack, doesnt fit snug with any plugs I have so sometimes have to wiggle the jack but appart from that impressed :-) Chris (UK)
ReplyDeleteSeems the fit on the jacks is a common problem with many Chinese radios. Quality control isn't quite there yet.
DeleteI have been trying to, program my Tri-band QYT KT-8900r by the CD and cable provided. Each time, I go and hit write to radio, I get this message "Can not write to radio can not find". I have programmed a few other radios, using Chrip and, Have not had any problems. I am not a computer programmer but, I am able to use one. Any help would be great. The other question is, the little book that came with it says, program port is in the front, and I have read that you program from the back port. Which one is it?

Jack in front for programming, back -external speaker. Manually choose the appropriate port in the programming soft (every time you start it). Win Vista might not work, XP recommendable. LB1VD.
DeleteAnd always do a read from the radio first. Save a copy of that config in case you ever have to revert back to it.
DeleteI have tried to read from the radio first. I am running Windows 10 and,it is still saying can not read port error. I am going to try the, anonymous users dated, February 23.If it works, thanks and if not I will try doing it manually.

DeleteYou can confirm which port is correct by checking in Device Manager. (Also, you can confirm it installed correctly - no exclamation marks or otherwise showing an error condition.)
DeleteHave a KT-8900R. Programmed it up first time with CHIRP and the supplied programming cable. In my case using a Dell laptop and Win10 it's necessary to use COMM4.
DeleteReading the enclosed instruction manual is not a bad idea before posting... ;) The back port is for external speaker. Front jack for programming. I assume you have the right cable driver and set your programming to the right port (manual setting). You have to use the software for the "r" model, as the software for programming the KT8900 will not work. Win Vista will be a problem but might work with more than luck.
ReplyDeleteThe originak software for the KT8900r and KT8900 can both be found on this site:

While you can't tune US 220MHz frequencies as they're outside of the 240-271 MHz range of this radio and you can't program outside of this range using the software, I have found that if I program US range stations using the BTECH UV-2501+220 software and save that file, then open it in the KT-8900R software, I am able to program 210-230 MHz this way and receive stations in that range as well on the KT-8900R. So all it is is a software limitation on the range. I'll test transmit tomorrow and report back. Note, the UV-2501+220 and KT-8900R do have some different menu options, so you have to alter some things in the programming before uploading the UV-2501+220 .dat file to the KT-8900R.
ReplyDeleteSo did it transmit on 220MHz? Bet it didn't . . .
DeleteLet me know, I just got mine and it's driving me crazy
ReplyDeleteThere is a secret but it's now not needed because the KT8900 can be programmed in CHIRP. If you have trouble figuring Chirp out have someone else program it for you. Rant:off
ReplyDeleteqyt8900r cant find radio with software using winxp, tried 2 usb leads and stil wont connect to the radio. pulling what hair i have left out trying software and drivers... grrrrr
ReplyDeleteIf youre using the cheap Chinese programming cables, from what I understand, the chipset they use doesnt work with the newer drivers. I used this old driver that seems to work with my windows 10. http://www.wouxun.us/item.php?item_id=222 scroll to the middle were it says "Download Driver 3.2.0.0" hope this helps.
ReplyDeletehi thanks for the info. i have sorted out the problem with a lot of searching the internet. all i could find was the software for the QYT-KT8900 which would not find the radio. I managed to find the right software for the QYT KT8900R and it hooked straight up. for anyone else with the same problem i had here is the link to the software download page http://www.qyt-cn.com/en/download.html . Its a chinese website and the download took ages for such a small file and a couple of attempts to download as i had a network error. but it worked straight away. P
DeleteFirst 7 or 8 channels in qrt th8900r program software keeps loseing the channel informtion any else found this.
ReplyDeleteI change in dat file and the radio working now on:
ReplyDelete128-178, 200-281 and 380-512 MHz :)
how do you change this?
DeleteEven if they change the DAT file to allow programming below 240Mhz, doesn't mean it will receive or transmit there. If it is outside of the radios ability the cpu will unlock and not work. For receive, there might be filtering that will block the receive signals.

DeleteNot everyone lives in the US. That band is in use within other parts of the world.
no country uses those frequencies. No matter how far you live
ReplyDeletefrom the USA
My transceiver is locked. Has the key symbol on display. I cannot change frequency on the radio or the keypad as thats locked too. It wont reprogram now either , I can't read from it or write to it. It still transmits and receives but is stuck on the 2 memory channels currently showing on the display, on each band. Im trying to get my head round whats happened and how I can reset it. theres no way to get to the menue as that key is locked also. The only 2 keys that work on ON/OFF and Monitor.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has same problem OR knows how to solve it please let me know. Thanks
Hi. I have the same problem. the key appears on the screen and not medeja enter menu to restore factory, does not work the microphone keypad. any feedback is appreciated thanks

DeleteHi, I have been trying to decide which of the currently available radios to buy, by spending much time reading reviews etc... on the internet. Anyway to the point, I read somewhere that some of the radios have a cloning feature, where after you have programmed one set you can use that one to program others. the others then only work as the first radio and become locked! If cloning can be carried out on this radio then I would assume that using another set maybe able to open yours.
DeletePress and Hold the # key on the keypad - Should unlock it.
DeleteMy KT8900R is working in 220Mhz band.
ReplyDelete1.-Load BTEH UV2501+220 software in your PC
2.-Make .dat file with 220 mhz frec. to use, rpt ofset, etc, etc.
3.-Save .dat file into folder, close Btech software.
4.-Open KT8900R software http://www.qyt-cn.com/en/download.html)
5.-Open .dat file and write into your KT8900R.
6.-d'not use 144/220 or 430/220 simultaneusly, because you can hear relay tic,tac,tic,tac..conmuting between band.
7.-Sorry for my english..LU1EG, Albert
In my radio, squelch is not working. I have been a Ham for along time and have some practical experience with Radio repairs too. please help.

ReplyDeleteI brought the RT system for my qyt 8900r radio make sure that it says qyt8900r and it is for your operating system and you use the rt cable for this radio follow the instructions do not try to do anything other than what the disk allows you will mess up the radio then you have to do a complete radio factory reset been there done that
ReplyDeleteMy qyt8900r works great for gmrs and if you use it as it was designed for
I just got my KT-8900R last month. Had no time until now to check it out it only program 136 -174 , 240-260 ,400 - 480 .
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to fix that 240 - 260
Last chance saloon! I have a QYT KT-8900r which is now dead. I plugged in an extension speaker and then it went QRT. Long press on / off button around five seconds and I hear a faint click and the TX lamp illuminates on PTT but nothing else. No display. Long press around five seconds again and another faint click ceases TX lamp on PTT. I can read it using Chirp and upload / download as usual. Does anyone know whether there's a hard reset procedure remembering I have no working display? I only plugged in a speaker for flip's sake! TIA, Steve.
