    1. It's... an interesting choice... to put it generously.

      The only thing I think I've ever even RX'd in that range is the little remote control me and my neighbors use to open our apartment gate. If I recall correctly it was somewhere near 300 MHz.

      (And that's almost certainly a Part 15 device).

      Our friends at NTIA show that part of the spectrum allocated to Mobile, Mobile Satellite and Fixed, which I believe means, basically, "commercial."

      I wonder if this is even Part 90 certified yet though. If it is, I'd expect it to have very limited market at least in North America.

      (Maybe this spectrum is allocated differently overseas?)

      Doing a quick search in the FCC license database, I looked for all active licenses between 350 and 400 MHz, and found a grand total of five licensees in the entire United States:

      * Lockheed Martin (twice)
      * Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport
      * Boeing
      * City of Nogales (AZ)

      LockMart looks like they use theirs on 382.600 MHz for flight testing purposes.

      Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport uses it for some kind of ATC stuff.

      Boeing's is classified as "industrial" and Nogales uses it for public safety.

    3. The seller is Indonesian, but Indonesia does not have an amateur allocation in this band ("UHF-very low") either.

      Indonesia does have VHF and UHF Citizens Band allocations (142 Mhz and 476 MHz). Any regular dual-band radio should cover those.

      I am having trouble finding the "Table of Frequency Allocation" which is the official decree of the Indonesian ministry in charge of radio stuff. Probably because I am searching in English and it is likely in Indonesian.

    4. There is also military systems in this range (but not MARS/CAP, as far as I am aware), and I suspect that pirate activity on military frequencies is much less likely to be well-received than, say, 2 Meters or GMRS.

  2. Changing the frequency limits on Wouxum's is normally easy with Chirp. I wonder how hard it would be to change the setup on one of these to cover a more useful intermediate frequency. (1.25 m?) May still need a different antenna, though.
