Sergeant Major Daniel A. Dailey on Leadership

A top ten list:
"No. 10. Never forget that you're just a soldier.
That’s all you are. No better than any other, but just one of them.
You may get paid a little more, but when the time comes, your job is to treat them all fair, take care of them as if they were your own children, and expect no more from them of that of which you expect from yourself."

Veterans Day

I didn't post this yesterday, because I think we should be thankful for the men and women who are willing to serve for more than one day out of the year. Lots of people posted yesterday, but this was the one that resonated the most with me.

Strength

Recently a friend of my family lost an 11 year battle with cancer. At the celebration of life service, the bishop spoke of this friend's ability to savor life. He had the strength to fight the cancer and continue to do all the things he loved - support the church, the Pride of the Southland marching band, and the Boy Scouts in addition to being a father, husband, and a lawyer.

We see examples of this sort of strength all the time - including this 12 year old boy who fought cancer almost all of his life. You see the strength in the individual, but also reflected in the actions of those around them like the Marines in the story.

It gives me hope.

Shame Game

It is a shame that the differences between the police and the army are becoming non-existent. Their roles are supposed to be different, so one would think they would be equipped differently.

Apparently that is not the case. I present the "Cop or Soldier" quiz. It should have been easy. It was not.

Soldiers' Angels

My Sunday school class participated in a project to fill Christmas stockings and send them to soldiers who cannot be home for the holidays.

Linoge has started a similar fundraiser to support Soldiers' Angels. Beyond the warm fuzzy feeling you will get for helping out, he has a few incentives (the latest Stephen Hunter novel, some East TN MHI patches, and maybe more) to giveaway for those that participate.

Cruise on over to his site and get all the details - HERE!

I put my money where my mouth is and I'm pitching in.
