ABP - Always Be Performing
I've heard people suggest C-SPAN, cable news, and the internet have lead to too much transparency. Compromises don't happen because politicians are always performing for their base. If they don't maintain their extreme positions, the mob attacks. That's how you get this...

Tariffs
Via the CS7000 Yahoo Group:
"Today the US government starts charging a 25% import duty for radios from China. Almost all the DMR radios are made in China. We will honor the pre tariff price as long as we have stock of radios we bought before we have to pay extra for the radios. That applies to the CS580, CS800D, CS750, CS800, and CS801. The AnyTone price is set by AnyTone and they have not indicated how the tariff is going to affect the price. I would expert the AnyTone MAP to go beyond the $169 so now would be a good time to get one from us before we are forced to raise our price.

The Amateur Radio Parity Act: Call to Action
Urge the Senate to Support the Amateur Radio Parity Act:
Amateur radio operators provide communications support for, and participate in public service events on behalf of our communities. During and in the aftermath of disasters and emergencies, when other forms of communications are unavailable, we provide communications for first responders and Federal, state and local governmental agencies and non-governmental agencies, and to our neighbors when communications systems are overloaded or fail. Radio Amateurs contribute to the future of telecommunications as we participate in the development of innovative technology in this digital age. Amateur Radio is non-commercial, and we provide our services at no charge to anyone.
We cannot do any of these things, however, unless we can erect an effective outdoor antenna at our residences.
On September 12, The US House of Representatives passed the "Amateur Radio Parity Act" to protect the rights of Radio Amateurs. Now is the time to contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to support this important legislation.

Where the Money Goes
I met a friend in DC a few years back. He worked for the Bureau of Land Management and was apologetically telling me his title as it was something like this:

Software substitution
Bill Gates talks about the future of jobs and how technology may reduce the number of jobs for people with only a basic skill set. He calls it "software substitution."
"When people say we should raise the minimum wage. I worry about what that does to job creation ... potentially damping demand in the part of the labor spectrum that I’m most worried about."Raising the minimum wage will simply accelerate the payback period for buying that robot or automated software tool. Image trying to lower the minimum wage in the future to make hiring people more attractive coupled with any amount of inflation - good luck unringing that bell.

TN .GOV @ Work
This is just another example of how the government fails to meet the standards of the private sector. I don't seem to recall Amazon.com shutting down during parts of the day and preventing me from just checking the status of an order.
