Stability is Speed
I'm really bad about having a bunch of tabs open. Even in Chrome it seems like one tab can cause the others to come to a screeching halt. And having a slow internet connections makes it even worse.

OS vs. Broswer
If browsers keep gobbling up memory, then they will lose an advantage over traditional OSes. Chrome and Firefox eat more memory than anything else I run on my machine.
