State of the Everything and the Kitchen Sink Radio
"Where is that radio that will do D-Star, DMR and Fusion? It seems like everything has gone no where?"

Hytera
Insert shocked face that anything like this could happen.
Judge says Hytera employees 'unquestionably copied' Motorola DMR technology https://t.co/TOZSQod6m4— Bob Witte (@BobWEngr) August 29, 2018

Linc Smartphone Walkie Talkie
So I'm still not sold on buying an add-on radio for a smartphone that I'm going to replace every couple of years, but I have to admit the Linc solution is pretty cool. It does FRS/GMRS, but what makes it interesting is the amateur radio options:
Linc Smart Walkie Talkie is also great for Amateur radio operators! Unlock the dual band (2m & 70cm) feature with your verified callsign and gain access to APRS tracking and Packet Radio capabilities. Linc can join your existing gear and help make some fun projects!
- Packet Radio
- Repeaters
- RoIP Repeaters
- Beacons
- Tracking devices (APRS)
- High altitude ballooning
- Long range mesh networks
- Scanning public safety frequencies
- Weather stations
Linc Smart Walkie Talkie operates on 2m & 70 cm band!
- And much more!

Shanghai Motorola - SMP
I just posted about the SMP698 Dual Band Mobile. Here is a little more about SMP from their website.
"Motorola Solutions (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. (“Shanghai Motorola”) is a global communications product provider powered by a passion to invent and an unceasing commitment to advancing the way the world connects. Shanghai Motorola was established in 1995. It is a joint venture between Motorola Inc. and China Putian Eastern Communications Company Limited. Shanghai Motorola is headquartered in Shanghai, China.
Shanghai Motorola designs, and produces various consumer and commercial telecommunication products. Current available products including Walkie Talkie FRS radio and SMP brand of two-way radios. Shanghai Motorola markets its products globally, and provides technical support and after sales service in the countries where it has business and operation. At the same time, Shanghai Motorola is actively developing advanced communication products that can promote the rapid growth of Internet of Thing (IOT), foster the new generation of economic and industrial network, and improve the communications in the new generation of network."
So we have Motorola Solutions (Shanghai) aka Shanghai Motorola aka SMP. I found this link to be a little more helpful in understanding the relationship with Motorola (emphasis mine):

Best I can tell, China Putian Eastern Communications is a holding company.

Google Stock Drops
Google stock drops... some say because of Motorola. If it is because of Motorola, then it is because they split off the most valuable segment - ham radio!

Yaesu Musen
Always interesting to see what happens to the pieces when companies are split into parts:
"According to Vertex Standard President and Chief Executive Officer Jun Hasegawa, effective January1, 2012, Motorola will keep the Vertex Standard Land-Mobile Division, while the amateur, marine and air-band will be under the Yaesu Musen banner."
