I cheated on my Asics when I could no longer get the GT-2170. I tried a pair of Brooks Ravenna 5, but took them back after a single run. I then moved to a Saucony Guide 7. It became obvious from my wear patterns that I no longer pronate like I did when I started running. My foot strike has changed dramatically. So now, I'm back to Asics - this time in the Gel-Nimbus 15.
A jack of many hobbies and a master of none - spending lots of time on amateur/ham radio, running, and technology.

Picking the Perfect Running Shoe
Another running related infograph... this one for picking the best running shoe so you can run 26.2 miles more or less.

Source: Fix.com
And you should pick up two different pairs:

And you should pick up two different pairs:
"The results of two studies, one published in British Journal of Sports Medicine and the other in Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, suggest that runners who train in more than one pair of shoes were indeed at a reduced risk for injury. The researchers suggest that the parallel use of more than one pair of running shoes varies the load applied to the musculoskeletal system, which can help protect runners from injury."So basically, I'm doing it wrong.

Shoes II
In case there is any doubt, I really like these shoes. Time to toss the two pair that are the most worn out. After looking at all of them, I think I can get a few more miles out of the oldest pair because I changed how I run and the wear pattern is different. The third pair has about 500 miles on them including the 26.2 from the marathon.

Shoes
If you find something you like, stick with it. Especially if you don't have a lot of money and can use an Amazon gift card to buy the out of production model for cheaper than anything at the local running stores.
The ASICS GT-2170 times three (pair). I don't know how many miles the oldest pair had (probably 400+), but the middle pair has 500+ miles. The newest pair has 3.01 miles.

Running Data - Now with Weather Data
I've been saying for a while that it would be nice if the Garmin (or RunKeeper) would add some additional information to your run history. I noticed yesterday that they have added weather information, so you can know what the conditions were during your run. The data has been added going back to December, 2012. It looks like this:
I still think they need to add a shoe database - it would be nice data for the runners, but it would be a goldmine for Garmin. I would think that Nike, Adidas, ASICS, and all the shoe companies would buy access to that data set.

Tying Your Shoes
You are doing it wrong. I've got a new pair of running shoes and I was going to experiment with the Runner's Knot. Maybe I should try this way, too.

New Kicks
I had been looking for some boots. With all the snow around here, my trainers just weren't cutting it. On the advice of a friend at Mast General Store, I picked up a pair of the Keen Targhee II Mid boots. Also based on a recommendation, I grabbed a couple pair of Smartwool socks to try out. I'll report back after I've put them through their paces. (Pun intended.)
