Cryptocurrency Adoption
An interesting graph and even more interesting discussion...
Bitcoin compared to other historical adoption curves. One of my followers made this, I can't recall who (please let me know and I'll repost with h/t). $BTC pic.twitter.com/iod6CxMY8H— Parabolic Trav (@parabolictrav) December 18, 2017

Asus Mesh
Pretty cool... Asus is extending the life of their older wireless routers by letting you turn them into mesh access points.
(You can pick up a refurb Asus 1900 for $48.)

Wireless - Truth
I am a Comcast customer, so I have installed their certificate that lets me easily connect to their hot spots that are almost ubiquitous. The downside is the marginal associations to a network that aren't actually usable.

Satellites
I learned about SatNOGS via the HamRadio 360 Hamvention Day 1 Review. SatNOGS is:
"a global management interface to facilitate multiple ground station operations remotely. An observer is able to take advantage of the full network of SatNOGS ground stations around the world. It's part of the SatNOGS project."And speaking of satellites, this is a cool visualization of stuff in space (via @InfoSec208).

Drones
Drones:
"Smartphones sales are cooling, tablets are sinking, and PCs are stagnant — but demand for drones just keeps on growing. As this chart from Statista shows, consumer drone sales in the US have increased sharply over the past few years, and are expected to keep growing."And you won't have to register them with the FAA anymore.

Doom!
It's everywhere!
You can play "Doom" on a thermostat because of course you can https://t.co/tql3kdXQpX pic.twitter.com/P2Ob7fy1xD— Motherboard (@motherboard) May 23, 2017
Look, I'm not saying ATMs are trivial to hack, just that lots of them seem to run Doom okay. Infer what you will 😏 pic.twitter.com/PNPPj4L4Tp— covfefe||oɥɔsɐp (@da5ch0) March 6, 2017

Compaq
I enjoyed listening to the How I Built This story about Compaq. We ran a lot of Compaq hardware back in the day, but I really didn't understand the bigger picture of what was going on. I did like my 575 desktops!

Refurb Amazon Echo Dot - $38
You can get a refurb Amazon Echo Dot for $38.
But don't do it... it is a slippery slope. I've got voice control of my thermostats. I added two plugs to control a couple of outlets last week. Now, I'm looking for a deal on light switches.

I've also thought that 99% of the plot driving problems from Seinfeld would be eliminated if they had mobile phones.

PSA: Don't Buy an Amazon Echo Dot
Don't buy an Amazon Echo Dot. It is a gateway drug. Now I want to buy Alexa-enabled outlets and switches. And maybe I need this battery pack, so I can move the Dot from room to room with me.
It'll cost me a few bucks up front and it will be great when it works. It also means, invariably at some point, I'll have to troubleshoot something that never fails like an outlet or light switch.

Zero, One, or Infinity
An interesting tidbit from a NANOG/DNS post:
"But needing “multiple” DNS Root Zone Servers and coming up with the number 13 appears to be somewhat curious. It seems such an odd limitation in the number of root servers given that a common rule of thumb in computer software design is Willem van der Poel’s Zero, One or Infinity Rule, which states a principle that either an action or resource should not be permitted (zero), should happen uniquely (one) or have no arbitrary limit at all (infinity). For root servers, it appears that we would like more than one root server. But why set that number to 13?"Leading to:
"The desire in the design of the DNS priming query and response was to provide the longest possible list of root name servers and addresses in the priming response, but at the same time ensure that the response was capable of being passed in the DNS using UDP. The largest possible set of names that could be packed in a 512 octet DNS response in this manner was 13 such names and their IPv4 addresses - so there are at most 13 distinct root name servers to comply with this limit."
