I think I'd really rather have the voice-control built in to the microwave - requiring proximity - instead of being able to yell at an Echo have it issue commands via the cloud. But if you want an Alexa Controlled Microwave you can order it from Amazon for $155 - which includes an Echo Dot.
A jack of many hobbies and a master of none - spending lots of time on amateur/ham radio, running, and technology.

That Explains It
Never seen a Chick-fil-A without a line wrapped around it. They close on Sundays to count money. Not because Jesus said so.— NIGris Elba (@hosienation) March 16, 2017

Hershey

I can tell you why - stupid "Almonds in every bite!" It's unnatural.

IoT: Neo Smart Jar
So there was the crockpot and now there are smart jars. I don't see them getting much traction at $99 for a pair.

Norris Dam Good BBQ Sauce
A friend of mine is trying to start a new business selling his own BBQ sauce. He's doing a KickStarter to raise funds to get the business going. He's a culinary school graduate and has been the head chef at a couple of restaurants. His mother passed away recently, but before she did she said she hated that she would not be around to see him follow his dream of selling his BBQ sauce. He has now quit his job and is trying to make a go of it.
The sauce is called "Norris Dam Good BBQ Sauce." The name is obviously a play on words - Norris Dam is close to Knoxville and was built in the 30's.
If you are interested, you can find his KickStarter page here. As of this writing, he is about halfway to his goal.

Okra
We have a few okra plants and I made our first harvest this week. I let them get too big, so they were a little tough. My secret recipe - straight off the internet a while back:
Step 1
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2
Trim the ends off 1 lb. of okra pods and cut the pods into 1/2-inch slices. Rinse the slices thoroughly under cool water to eliminate some of the liquid from the okra.Step 3
Place the okra in the baking dish and drizzle olive oil over the okra. Stir the okra slices to coat them with the oil.Step 4
Add cumin, coriander, garlic powder, red pepper flakes and salt and stir to coat the sliced okra.Step 5
Place the baking pan in the oven and bake the sliced okra for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the okra is crispy.

Lifehacker - Out of Topics
I think Lifehacker finally ran out of material given this recent post that recommends making a better grilled cheese sandwich BY GRILLING BOTH SIDES OF THE BREAD!
Even the frat guys in a dorm room know to flip the sandwich over and grill the other side with a clothes iron.
Next up... for better night time reading, turn on a lamp!

Frozen Yogurt vs. Ice Cream
When I was a kid, there were lots of ice cream stores. It seems like they are almost all gone and have been replaced by frozen yogurt shops. I guess this is the price of progress.
Just something I've noticed.

Big Apple Says Bye to Big Gulp
Just like guns laws don't prevent criminals from getting guns, banning large, sugary drinks won't keep obese people from drinking lots of calories. I say let's just ban everything, but water.
Welcome to the nanny state.
