Ninja Librarians
My worst nightmare... government ninja librarians. I would have said zombies, but they have jumped the shark.

Quote of the Day
Slashdot had a post about the end of Listserv at AOL and it brings us this quote from Hatta:
"Yes. And USENET was just like web fora, except with all your forums under one powerful interface. And IRC was just like IM, except, well no IRC is exactly like IM.
Why did we need to invent twitter, web fora, and IM when we had Listserv, USENET, and IRC?"What is old is new again.

Google Broke My Browser
For some fun, Google "tilt" and "do a barrel roll" in Firefox or Chrome.
tim I'm fully 5 hours late to this but if you haven't already, you might want to try Googling "tilt". (via @acton inter alia) #eastereggsThu, Nov 03 13:35:02 from web

NYC Marathon and Ham Radio
NYC Marathon: Cancer won’t keep this radio volunteer down - NY Daily News:
Via eHam.net
"This will be the 36th running of the five-borough marathon. Mendelsohn is the only person who has been on the course for every mile of every one of them, always in the lead vehicle. His official title is Communications Director, which means he’s in charge of 400 ham radio operators who provide the communications pathways for all aspects of the race."That's an impressive record even if he had been healthy the whole time. I continue to be surprised at all the places ham radio pops up.

More Hams!
150 freshmen to get tickets at Cal Poly -KB6NU's Ham Radio Blog:
*Maybe I did, but I didn't recognize it at the time.
"Dennis Derickson (AC0P), Cal Poly Electrical Engineering (EE) department chair, conceived the Freshman Licensing Initiative which gives every EE 111 student a chance to get their radio license. As part of the EE 111 curriculum, this test session will be administered during the 50-minute class period and count as one of the midterm exams for the freshmen students."I wish I had an opportunity* like this when I was in school.

Game Ball for Brodus
How to play for UT?
- Fall asleep on the couch.
- Wake up about an hour before the game.
- Answer the phone.
- Get a police escort to the stadium.
- Suit up.
- Kick three extra points and a field goal.
An amazing story. The Dooley quotes are, as usual, priceless.
Cheap Tablet
It amazes me that you can get a tablet for $70. The Velocity Micro Cruz 7" Tablet (Android) may not be a great one, but $70.
