Baofeng UV-3R: Is Big Brother using my UV-3R to track me?

No.

Occupy Ham Radio

A funny thread popped up on the UV-3R group about the merits of buying the radio in the US versus direct from Asia: Occupy Ham Radio, Buy Cheapest, Save Money

Tennessee Scanner Frequencies: The BIG List

DIY Gas Mask

For preppers or the "Occupy" crowd, a DIY Gas Mask. I guess it is really just for the "Occupy crowd/regular people."
"With Occupy protests around the country, things are heating up. With disbursement of tear gas an pepper spray by police, how are regular people able to keep safe?"

Baofeng UV-3R: Receiving Interference

My Hungarian is a little rusty, but here is the description of the video:
"Two Baofeng UV3R radio is, in fact, Mark and I had. Unfortunately, if Gerje close to the car GPS units. However, only VHF UHF frequencies did not already have this feedback, not only on the floor near the GPS, but other customers (!) Is near. Unfortunately, essentially at the same time I use it on the radio and a GPS device so this is very disturbing phenomenon. Maybe if smb. megoláds know what the write me or kommentezzen. Thank you"
Apparently the GPS makes the UV-3R go nuts. He is able to change the squelch setting and it does its DSP thing and the interferance is filtered out.

Baofeng UV-3R: Cheap UV-3R Repeater

Bart (eo512) has created a UHF repeater using two UV-3R Mark II and a small UHF duplexer. He thinks he'll be in the hole for less than $200 (excluding antenna and feedline) for the project.

I'll have to check back later as he indicates he'll add more notes about the setup.

Baofeng UV-3R: Spare Parts

Thanks to shovelheadjake for pointing out that you can order lots of spare parts for your UV-3R from the 409Shop.

Brady Campaign to Prevent Alien Attacks

The BC might have more luck with aliens.

Grab the slide or use the slide release button?

I think the short answer is do what works for you. The longer answer includes some pros and cons for each.

I grab the slide because Travis told me to do it that way when he was teaching me about press outs.

Also, because on some guns the slide release is harder to reach than on others.

KG-UV920R: The Latest

So the Wouxun web page at Andrews Communications Systems in Australia has everyone stirred up again because of these lines:
"Due Jan/Feb., 2012"
"Compare to TM-D710A!"
"Lee operated a sample KG-UV920R at the October, 2011, Hong Kong fair. Yes, this transceiver does exist, hi!"
So Ed laid hands on one a few months ago and now Lee has, too.

The next tidbit is that we should compare it to the Kenwood D710A, so others began speculating about APRS or packet modes.

As Andy Griffith said, "don't over expect". No APRS and no packet with the
920R. The radio is supposed to be finished in December. Don't look to purchase
one that's certified until February or March from what I was told.

Ed

I think I am repeating myself, but time will tell.
