Ready for some Good News

Bruce is gone. Kiffin ran off. NCAA investigations. Pat is sick. The Vols were dropped from the ESPN Gameday intro. Peyton's neck is broken. And now, Eric Berry is out with a torn ACL.

We are due for some good news.

General Neyland

I'm a little too young to have seen him coach, but I wish I had. Story here.

Rules for Recruiting

As more information comes out about UT's NCAA woes (here, here, here), I have come up with the universal rules for recruiting.

1. Don't cheat.
2. If you cheat, don't get caught.
3. If you get caught, don't lie.

How we warm up in the morning...

I like for the guys in my IT department to get things going in the morning by doing a little bit of physical activity. It looks something like this...

Fired Up!
I think winning programs have that level of excitement and enthusiasm in most of their practices.

And He Will Make Millions

Ja'Juan Story is a 4-star college football player. I'm not sure what is funnier in this interview - his blunt honesty or his taste in music.

Vol Football Players Attacked by Police Dogs

Dooley continues to promote culture change by getting his players together with the police for a KPD training day. You can read the full story here.

Condredge Holloway Story

I watched the Condredge Holloway Story last night.

I'm not sure this is the same highlight, but they showed one video where he was touched by all eleven players on the opposing team and still could not be stopped. Ridiculous.

Holloway gives Bear Bryant a lot of credit for being honest about the fact that Alabama was not ready for a black quarterback. The editing almost sound like being up front about that fact was a bigger deal than having a university that could accept him as the leader of their team.

Definitely worth the hour I spent to watch. Check your local listings for future showings.

Dinner with Derek Dooley

I had dinner with Derek Dooley last night - with about a thousand of my closest friends - to celebrate the successful recruitment of the next freshman class for UT Football. He kept emphasizing the good character of these young men. Dooley seems to be a real class act himself. I hope he can win some games and stick around for a long time.

Big Orange Screw

The Vols got screwed out of a win at the Music City Bowl yesterday. I know I'm biased, but even some refs agree.

The last time the Volunteer Nation got treated this poorly was when Peyton Manning didn't get the Heisman Trophy.

Quarterback for Sale

Sounds like a deal if it gets you a Heisman a National Championship in exchange for a $180,000.

.500 and a Bowl Game

Congrats to the Vols who got back to .500 today with the 26 consecutive win over Kentucky.

Best quotes of the day:

Gerald Jones on a team that went from 2-6 to 6-6: "We're not champions, but we're not quitters, either. Nobody can ever call us quitters."
via @WesRuckerCTFP

Derek Dooley referring to his two catches when QB Bray was under pressure and had to get rid of the ball by throwing it out of bounds (with a jab at the punt return difficulties): "I was just showing them it's not hard to catch the football. I'm going to go catch punts next."

Sports Grab Bag

Congrats to the Vols for winning the NIT tournament by beating Villanova today. This was a quality win over tough opponent in a tournament setting. I think it bodes well for the team this season - assuming the wheels don't fall off the bus because of Bruce's trouble.

Auburn pulled out a miracle comeback. Of course, their Cam problem may be worse than Pearl's.

Vince Young

Vince Young may be an exmaple of the Peter Principle. Or may be Vince Young just needs a nicer coach.

Sophomore Defense Tackle Montori Hughes has been suspended for academic reasons. Dooley commented that "Everybody’s got freedom of choice, but nobody’s got freedom of consequence."

I think there are way too many people that don't understand that.
