More Hams!

150 freshmen to get tickets at Cal Poly -KB6NU's Ham Radio Blog:
"Dennis Derickson (AC0P), Cal Poly Electrical Engineering (EE) department chair, conceived the Freshman Licensing Initiative which gives every EE 111 student a chance to get their radio license. As part of the EE 111 curriculum, this test session will be administered during the 50-minute class period and count as one of the midterm exams for the freshmen students."
I wish I had an opportunity* like this when I was in school.

*Maybe I did, but I didn't recognize it at the time.

Game Ball for Brodus

How to play for UT?
  1. Fall asleep on the couch.
  2. Wake up about an hour before the game.
  3. Answer the phone.
  4. Get a police escort to the stadium.
  5. Suit up.
  6. Kick three extra points and a field goal.
An amazing story. The Dooley quotes are, as usual, priceless.

Cheap Tablet

It amazes me that you can get a tablet for $70. The Velocity Micro Cruz 7" Tablet (Android) may not be a great one, but $70.

Minus 10 Points for Gearhog

Shame for on Gearhog for promoting the mall ninja crowd with the Concealed Weapon Badge and Case deal. It is their business and they can run it how they want, but the people that want one of these aren't usually the best ambassadors for the 2A group.

Get the bacon. I'll cover you.

Yeah, it is a commercial for Spiceworks. But, I give them credit for:
  • a good, free (ad supported) help desk
  • decent production quality on the video
  • zombies
  • guns (NERF)
  • I.T. guys
  • bacon

Wouxun and Baofeng Group Buy

Anyone interested in a group buy of the Wouxun or Baofeng should meander over to the World Wide DX forum.

Wouxun KG-UV6D: Expensive

Main Trading Company has the Wouxun KG-UV6D Dual Band radio, but it is $183. That still seems really high given the limited changes from the previous models. I will be curious to see what Ed's starting price is.
