Baofeng Shop Part II

Working under the theory that it doesn't hurt to ask, I sent an e-mail to Baofeng about the BaofengShop.com site and I had to inquire about Baofeng mobile.
"As for Baofengshop.com is our online shop, it belongs to our company directly, but as for official website is :Http://www.baofengradio.com
In this website, there are many items and much information about our company. The products on this shop are in stocked."
So, BaofengShop.com is their site, but it really isn't a working e-commerce site.
"As for Mobile Radio, so far, we are still developing the new styles, so we don’t release this product so far."
Nothing to report, but who knows what may happen in the future.

HYS: New Website

And speaking of new sites, Nate points out that HYS Truest Communications has a new site.

Thanks Nate!

Baofeng Shop and Website

Hans noticed that Baofeng has a new website (his post, their site), and I noticed an additional link to the Baofeng Shop. The shop is populated with lots of radios, but they all say $0. Some of the links are broken.

So are they working on cutting out the middle man?

I'll dig a little more, but I found the site interesting.

(And if someone wants to explain this other linked site, that would be cool: www.new-ronway.com)

iEye

iPads purchases reduces sales of Macs. According to Business Insider, Apple's next move will be to replace the iPhone with a Head Mounted Display. So, we should see an interesting battle between the Google Goggles and the iEye.

Wouxun KG-UV920R: Relationships

I e-mailed a US dealer and asked if they would be selling the updated KG-UV920P. They replied that they would not sell the KG-UV920P if it was the best radio in the world. And they included the following to emphasize their point:

Being low cost and having a good product are important if you want to be a successful company, but they aren't the only things. Wouxun should want their re-sellers being evangelists for their products.

iGun

From Tam...
"Caleb had a post up recently about the deuce-deuce M&P carbine as a defensive choice, which was interesting, in that I had recently been musing that in a situation like that faced by the Korean shopkeepers in the '92 Los Angeles riots*, I'd hand my neighbor the .22 AR as a spare long gun without a qualm.
It looks scary and makes noise, which is important because the most important use of long guns in those scenarios was as a deterrent and, push-come-to-shove, it's a lot easier for a novice to operate and make hits with than any of the other spare long guns I have lying around. The thought of a marginally-trained person not much over five feet tall wrestling with a Garand or Mosin M44 on short notice is daunting; by comparison, a dot-sighted rimfire AR is practically an iGun."
I have one of those! Glad they come in black as I don't want a white one. (Not enough snow here to justify it.)

"Basically, IT magnifies power"

I like this quote from Bruce:
"Basically, IT magnifies power"
He is using it to discuss the activities of the Syrian government to deal with dissidents, but I think it applies to more mundane situations - like running a business.

Not a Bad Day

This is how my day started on Wednesday.

I'm not really sure how it happened other than to say I wasn't paying attention. The quote to replace the three panels is almost $500. I still say it wasn't a bad day.
  • My best friend's mom has pancreatic cancer.
  • A good high school friend has a new born that is in the NICU because of problems with underdeveloped organs.
  • My pastor's father died this week.
  • A co-worker's son died this week.
  • The father of another good high school friend had a heart attack and almost died.
  • A co-worker's daughter, who has run several marathons, is being told she needs back surgery related to her childhood scoliosis - and that she will never run again.
Perspective. I'm getting a lot more of it right now than I care to. If you pray, you might consider saying one for these folks.

Curiosity – What’s Inside The Cube

"Curiosity – What’s Inside The Cube" is an app for the iPhone. Don't. Download. It. I read about it in Wired. It is mindless and a huge waste time. Gotta go. I've got little cubs to click.

Ten Weird Chinese Mobile Phones

Some strange phones, but one on page three, the Concox GK3537, reminds me of the Runbo X5. It does 400-470 MHz.
