UT Student Housing at Gettysvue

UT will use Bruce Pearl's house as student housing. They should have given it that status before the whole recruiting violation/lying to the NCAA thing. Heck, Little Pearl probably already spent a lot of time there.

Quote of the Day

Bruce Pearl is selling his house. His quote is priceless.
Pearl said Monday that the property was "clearly my dream home", but that he needs to downsize. "Now that I'm not the basketball coach and may not be doing quite as much entertaining, it's bigger than what we need," he said.
Emphasis is mine.

Rules for Recruiting

As more information comes out about UT's NCAA woes (here, here, here), I have come up with the universal rules for recruiting.

1. Don't cheat.
2. If you cheat, don't get caught.
3. If you get caught, don't lie.

How we warm up in the morning...

I like for the guys in my IT department to get things going in the morning by doing a little bit of physical activity. It looks something like this...

I.T.!
Fired Up!
I think winning programs have that level of excitement and enthusiasm in most of their practices.

Cough Syrup

My wife calls this cough syrup. I don't have a problem with that, but she also claims it is a preventative. (Just kidding.)

USA INC and TN INC

If the government was a company... USA INC.

In a hole - trillions in debt.
Continuing to dig - negative cash flow.
And entitlements are the back hoe in this process to get us even deeper in dept.
"Conclusion – Publicly traded companies with similar financial trends would be pressed by
shareholders to pursue a turnaround. The good news: USA Inc.’s underlying asset base and
entrepreneurial culture are strong. The financial trends can shift toward a positive direction,
but both ‘management’ and ‘shareholders’ will need collective focus, willpower, commitment,
and sacrifice."
If this was a business, I think we'd see a change in leadership. The Tea Party has already facilitated some changes in middle management, but let's replace the CEO when his contract is up.

And closer to home... As a former business man, I would hope that Governor Haslam will take a pragmatic approach to the budget.
"“The time is right to go on a rigorous diet that consumes less and exerts more energy.”

“State government does a lot of good things. We have worked hard to try and continue funding many of those things. The reality is that there are a lot of things I would like to do, that each member of the Legislature would like to do, but that we simply cannot afford.”

Free Gun Storage!

FREE! FREE! FREE!

That's right! Free gun storage!*

Are you tired of having to store your own guns? Sick of having the option to defend yourself? Don't like the convenience of ready access to your own weapons?

Well then, the UT Police Department has a deal for you! They will happily store those pesky guns for you. It is a great way to "own" guns without really having access to them.

*Some restrictions, especially to your Second Amendment rights, may apply.

Sarcasm aside, given the current laws, this is a nice service.

New Bills Proposed to Enhance Gun Rights

New proposals in Tennessee would allow permit holders to be exempt from background checks and the second paves the way for employees to have weapons on company property.

SB 0306
I don't buy a lot of guns, but it would be nice to skip the fee and paperwork. I don't know that this would aid in the privacy front, but it shouldn't hurt.

SB 0519
I'm ready for some legislation that protects my rights to carry any where. It makes my head spin that people thing little signs will keep the bad guys from bringing guns into a building.

Your State is #1 at Something Bad

Article: The United States of Shame - What is your state the worst at?

I was surprised to see Tennessee at #1 for corruption. I'd like to think that we are just good at (eventually) rooting out the few cases of corruption while other states are underreporting their problems, because the criminals are never caught and prosecuted.

Benton's is Cool

Tennessee is awesome.

Great bacon at Benton's Hams in Madisonville, TN. I love the bacon.

Lots of guns at Benton’s Shooter Supply in Benton, TN. I've not been yet, but looks like I need to make a road trip.
